Who Talks Shakespeare Better That Shakespeare Himself?

So at school we did shakespeare plays and my class did Romeo and Juliet. If you don’t know the story here is a summary. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a long feud between the Montague and Capulet families disrupts the city of Verona and causes tragic results for Romeo and Juliet. Revenge, love, and a secret marriage force the young star-crossed lovers to grow up quickly and fate causes them to commit suicide in despair. The play went great and we had a party afterwords. Did you know that we say a lot of words we owe to shakespeare.

Things We Say Today That We Owe To Shakespeare

  • knock-knock!who’s there?
  • Heart of gold
  • set your teeth on edge
  • good ridance
  • so-so
  • faint hearted
  • fight fire with fire
  • seen better days
  • too much of a good thing
  • send him packing
  • wear your heart on you sleeve
  • not slept a wink
  • come what may
  • for goodness sake
  • the game is up
  • what’s done is done
  • full circle
  • baited breath
  • green eyed monster
  • vanish into thin air
  • be  all/end all
  • dead as a doornail
  • in a pickle
  • fair play/foul play
  • brave new world
  • makes your hair stand on end
  • naked truth
  • break the ice
  • the world is my oyster
  • laughing stock
  • wild goose chase
  • breathed his last
  • off with his head
  • lie low
  • love is blind

Just looking at this list makes me think. What else do we say or do that we owe to shakespeare?……..     The answer to that question I still have to think about.

I am probably going to write another post about this.

I said “FIFA World Cup?”

The FIFA World Cup is the event that is held at a country every 4 years. This year it is being held at Brazil. If you didn’t know football is the name for soccer around the world. Did you you know that FIFA stands for International Federation of Association Football or Fédération Internationale de Football Association. Brazil have won five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament. The other World Cup winners are Italy and Germany, with four titles each; Argentina and inaugural winners Uruguay, with two titles each; and England, France and Spain, with one title each. The best two of the 32 teams move on to the finals after many games. Like my friend might say “They will play to the end.” I think she forgot to say “of the World Cup”.  all matches of the 2006 FIFA World Cup was estimated to be 26.29 billion with an estimated 715.1 million people watching the final match, a ninth of the entire population of the planet. The next two World cups will be hosted by Russia in 2018 and Qatar 2022.The tournament was expanded to 24 teams in 1982, and then to 32 in 1998, also allowing more teams from Africa, Asia and North America to take part. In 1950 World Cup, held in Brazil, was the first to include British participants. The two teams this year at the world final was Argentina and Germany. the score of the game was 0-1. Germany went home with the World Cup this year. Well that is all I know about the FIFA World Cup.
